Cleaning your bird’s cage may initially seem daunting. There are so many bars, cracks and crevices to clean that it may be difficult for new bird owners to know where they should begin.
Maintaining an effective cleaning schedule for your bird’s cage is key to making this task as manageable as possible. Dividing it up into manageable daily, weekly, and monthly tasks not only saves you time and energy but ensures that their home remains clean and comfortable for them to live in.
Dirty cages can lead to serious health problems for birds. Therefore, regular cage cleaning must be conducted every day in order to reduce infection risks for your pet and keep their home in top condition:
Change the cage liner daily. Not only is it uncomfortable for birds, but lingering food scraps and droppings can create an unhealthy environment in their home cages – not to mention emitting an unpleasant stench! To avoid these problems altogether make sure that you change out their paper regularly.
Clean Food and Water Dishes. Remove your bird’s food and water bowls daily and wash them using mild dish detergent to prevent the growth of bacteria that could potentially harm its health. Rinse and dry thoroughly before replacing in its cage.
Clean Surfaces. Using a damp rag or paper towel, spot clean all surfaces within your cage including bars, perches, toys and any toys that your birds might use as playthings. For stubborn dirt buildup use an eco-friendly bird-safe cage cleaner.
