Crested geckos are low-maintenance pets that make an ideal addition to households with young children or those new to keeping lizards. One unique aspect is their eyelash-like features – hence why these pets may sometimes be called eyelash geckos!
Crested geckos come in an assortment of colors and markings (morphs). Their name derives from their fringed crest that extends from their eyes down their necks and backs – this fringe may or may not extend past each eye, depending on its size.
These lizards hail from New Caledonia, an island nation off Australia’s east coast. Once thought extinct, these reptiles were “rediscovered” around 1994 and their popularity as pets has steadily increased ever since.
