Service dog breeds can vary widely depending on why their humans need them; however, two retriever breeds often take precedence among these canines.
Examples of service dogs include guide, hearing and medical alert dogs which alert their humans in case of medical emergencies. Guide dogs typically need to be larger, athletic and trainable while hearing dogs can often be smaller and more independent.
There are two breeds we typically associate with service dogs, but there are more who can fulfill this role as well. Here is more information on nine service dog breeds.
