Rabbits are herbivorous animals and should consume some fruit as part of a balanced plant-based diet, however fruits should make up no more than two percent of your rabbit’s overall daily food consumption. Instead, grass hays, leafy green vegetables and pellets should make up most of his/her daily nutritional requirements; fruit should only be given occasionally as healthy treats to prevent digestive issues including Ileus which could prove fatal to your bunny’s life.
When giving your rabbit fruit as treats, start out slowly by offering small quantities of one kind at a time and gradually increase or switch out types until your digestive system adjusts to them. If any changes arise in their eating behavior or watery stools arise or any behavioral modifications take place due to these new foods, discontinue giving fruit immediately and contact a veterinarian immediately.
